The Aim. Over three weeks in September / October 2007 I cycled from John O Groats to Lands End, a distance of 1001 miles. I stayed in a mixture of budget accommodation consisting of Youth Hostels and independent Backpackers and towards the end B+Bs and budget hotels. Visit website

There were bikers everywhere, and at every corner they were whizzing at high speed past or toward me. Once again I had the place to myself, and what a place. It was beautifully turned out with 4/5 bedrooms, Sky telly, an Arga, Wood burning stove, drying room, central heating, e.t.c., e.t.c. Time for the old favourites, a shower and wash my ... This made me huff a bit. The going between Galashiels and Selkirk was basically flat, I came across of my old favourites "Route 1", but it went off in the wrong direction, but it did lead me onto a nice cycle path which tracked the A7. At Selkirk the path returned to the road, I was left fighting it out with the lorries and cars. Visit website

The map showed that the A389 was going to be lengthened, and this would allow me to get to Indian Queens without going on the A30. It turned out that this work isn’t completed (started?), but the A30 had been “duelled” all the way to Indian Queens. So once again I was cycling in the 18inch portion of the road to the left of the white line ... Visit website

I finally made Bodmin about 16.30pm There was a really fast steep hill into town, which allowed me to race the cars, but then it flattened out, I cycled through the town, and found a little hotel (Hotel Casa Casi ) just on the way out.
